He Shall Direct Thy Paths

Proverbs 3:6Hallway

$24.00
The boxes are down to the last few and nobody has said yet what this year looks like. You have prayed over this house plainly, in your own words. Above the shoe bench, where everyone drops their keys, there is a painted map: two roads part at a fork, one walked smooth, one grassed over, and a small white mark waits where they divide. You pass it on the way out and it asks nothing of you. Guests read it as a map first and scripture second, so nobody standing in your entryway feels spoken to.

hallway bible verse wall art proverbs 3

The road that got walked and the one that grassed over

From the other end of the corridor it reads as a painted map. Hills seen from a little above, a road coming up from the bottom of the frame, and then the place where it splits. One way runs pale and worn. The other softens at the edges and goes to grass, and after a while you cannot say where it went.

There is no instruction anywhere on it. Nobody in the picture is hurrying, and nothing in it asks anything of the people going out of the door. That is what it gives you: a quiet thing to pass twice a day that stays quiet.

Your sister stands in front of it and sees a person at the fork, still deciding. A friend who has had a hard two years sees the road that got walked and the one that grassed over, and says that is exactly a wilderness season. Somebody else only notices the small white mark waiting where the paths divide, and asks what it is for. You answer in your own words, and the entryway holds all three.

From up here the fork is a small thing

Roads seen from above

I keep looking at the mark at the fork. It is small, smaller than a thumbnail from where I stand, and the whole field leans toward it. One road runs pale and worn down the left of the hill. The other goes soft at the edges, then to grass, and after a while you cannot say where it went. Neither one is lit more than the other.

From this height a person is a speck, and still the roads bend around where they are standing. That is what I want the one who lives with it to have: the hill you are on looks small from above, and it is still being watched carefully. Whichever way the road goes from here, nobody at that fork is lost.

One framed piece, not a basket of things

One of them is you, three weeks into a house where the boxes are nearly gone. You have walked the rooms and said it plainly, in the name of Jesus Christ, bless this home and protect our family, and you would rather the wall by the door held that than a slogan about protection.

The other is the friend who heard that a family has moved across the country and started over. She knows the honest answer to what do you need is usually nothing, the house has enough stuff in it already, so she sends one framed thing instead of a basket of things.

It hangs above the shoe bench just inside the front door, the first of two maps at the same height, so the corridor reads as one journey.

What people ask before it goes up

1.What bible verse is good for an entryway?
Proverbs 3:6 is one families keep coming back to for a doorway: in all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. It belongs by a front door because it is about going out and coming back, not about the room itself. On this piece the reference sits in a small line under the map, so the words are there without a sign on the wall.
2.What art goes above a shoe bench in a hallway?
One piece, sized to the bench rather than to the whole wall, hung at eye level so it reads on the way past. The 45x60 cm framed size is the usual choice here, with its centre around 145 cm from the floor. That keeps it clear of coats and keys and still fills the space above the seat.
3.How do I decorate a long narrow hallway wall?
Narrow walls settle better with a few pieces at one height than with a scattered arrangement. Hang this one first, inside the front door, then repeat the same size and the same frame further down the corridor. Because the picture is a map, two of them at the same height make the hallway read as one journey.
4.Is this a good housewarming gift for a family starting over in a new town?
It suits that moment well, because a family in a half unpacked house has enough things and not much on the walls. It is one framed piece rather than a basket, and it goes up the day it arrives. If you want to say something with it, that you are thinking of them as they find their way here is usually enough.
5.Will it look too religious to guests who do not share the faith?
Most people read it as a painted map first: hills, two roads and a fork. The verse reference sits quietly at the bottom, so a guest can ask about it or simply look. Nobody standing in your entryway feels addressed, and the answer stays yours to give.
